The Importance of Historical Productions in the Reconstruction of Collective Memory: The Example of Mehmetçik Kutlu Zafer Series

Media is an extremely important tool in the reconstruction of social memory. The recent increase in television series, in particular, is important for this construction to be effective. The media, which constructs the historical memory in the way it wants with its legs of forgetting and reminder, is constantly building the social memory with productions in accordance with the spirit of the time.Although the way Turkish TV series are reconsidering the past today is a manifestation of an ideological understanding, the adoption of this ideology by the society shows how effective the fictional aspect of reality is. In this study, Mehmetçik Kutlu Zafer TV series, which tries to revive the Turkish collective memory, has been analyzed with descriptive analysis method. In the descriptive analysis, first of all, a classification was made about the contents of forget-remembering discourses from the past to the present, and it was observed that the contents were processed at this point. On the other hand, the triangle of Islam, faith and Turkishness stands out in the emphasis on a collective memory component. The importance of unity, homeland and freedom is another element of collective memory building obtained from the contents of the series. Finally, the contents revealed by the social warnings made with the memory of the state strengthen the messages given.
